Review of applications is expected to begin in early March 2018, with formal acceptances anticipated to be completed by late-April.

The instructions below apply:

Timing and Eligibility: Based on some common questions, we have added these pointers – please read carefully prior to applying.

  1. For a variety of reasons (including housing, safety training, and cohort building), we are unable to accommodate students who are unable to arrive at the program start and stay through the end. In years when we have had placements at CBiRC partners on different (i.e., quarter system) academic schedules, we have been able to accommodate a handful of students from alternate-schedule schools, but we are not in position to do so this year.
  2. Brief (2 – 3 day) absences from the program in weeks 2 – 8 can typically be accommodated if the host lab schedule can accommodate. Please discuss with us at time of offer if you anticipate such a request.
  3. The REU is an immersive experience. Students are not allowed to take classes at ISU or online and maintain their stipend. Nor are students allowed to work elsewhere on the ISU campus or in town and maintain their stipend. Students who need to be away from the ISU campus in Ames most weekends of the summer are discouraged from applying, due to some lab work often being done on weekends.
  4. The REU is a stand-alone experience; please do not expect to do it as part of an internship program unless there is no additional reporting burden on your host lab / mentor.

With your application, please be prepared to attach the following:
